Gimmicks
From Dr. Mario World
Objects are things that appear in the play area. Gimmicks are objects which are not viruses or overlays over objects. Some make the gameplay more challenging while some aid the player.
Making matches with viruses, capsules, and colored gimmicks eliminates them. This also causes the non-colored objects surrounding the match to be "attacked" (not an official term), activating their function.

Ice | An overlay which protects the object. It can be either half or full, requiring one or two attacks respectively to deplete it. |
![]() |
Coin Blocks | Some stages require the player to collect coins hidden in blocks. These coin blocks usually contain three coins, with each attack generating one. It converts to a Rock when it has no more coins. |

Bubbles | An overlay which causes the object to float upwards until it collides with another object. |
![]() |
Blue Coins | Some stages display these coins in the background, and usually require the player to collect them to clear the stage. They can be collected by eliminating all objects that are covering the coin. |

Cage | A colored overlay which protects an object from interaction. The player must eliminate the Lock Block of the corresponding color to remove all of the corresponding color's cages. |

Doors and Keys | The Door is an object which is eliminated only when the Door Key (which is always in a Bubble) touches it. |
![]() |
Colorful Crates | Similar to Crates, but only breaks from attacks of the same color. |
![]() |
Capsule Plus | Colored object when eliminated, adds the indicated number of capsules. The number will decrease over time. |

Green Coins | Despite looking like a coin, no stages currently require collecting them. Whenever a capsule (half or full) is placed without clearing any objects, all Green Coins toggle between its open state and its barrier-ed state. They can be eliminated by attacking it in its open state. |

Bubble Machine | Is initially inactive. When attacked, it becomes active, and any subsequent attacks adds a Bubble to a random virus. |
